“Only I will close my eyes – before me you get up … Only I will open my eyes – you swim above your eyelashes” – so could we confess to love for an ancient, proud, welcoming, free Georgia. It is difficult to determine unequivocally what makes Sakartvelo’s land so sweet to us: hospitality and toasts, unreal beauty of the mountain temples or taverns of old Tbilisi, Kindzmarauli or Suliko, Lezginka or the artless Pirosmani art. We come here to drink “Borjomi” and walk in Batumi, rest on the Black Sea beaches and breathe in the eternal beauty of the Caucasus Mountains, in the end – just live in Georgian style!

Breakfast and then excursion of Mtskheta – Tbilisi.
A trip to Mtskheta is like a journey through time. The city was founded in the first century BC. e., this is the very first capital of Georgia – after it the title was taken away by Tbilisi. But Mtskheta remained the spiritual heart of the country: it was here that Christianity was first adopted, as early as 327 AD. e. By modern standards, this is not even a city, rather a big village, but the former greatness, and most importantly – everyone will feel the spirit of the time, even just strolling through the streets. Mtskheta is popular with tourists around the world, because the Georgian authorities are investing in the restoration of surviving monuments. In the city itself there are few, in fact the three main ones: the Samtavro monastery, the Svetitskhoveli cathedral and the fortress of Bebritsikhe.
Lunch in Mtskheta. Continuation of the tour of Tbilisi (old town)
Dinner at the restaurant with a program of Georgian dances and songs.
Breakfast. Excursion to Kakheti. Visit the wine factory and taste Georgian wines.
The Bodbe monastery is located in the eastern part of Georgia – Kakheti, two kilometers from the city of Signagi, over the Alazani valley. It was founded at the end of the 4th century, after the death of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Nina, in a place that the saint chose as her last refuge.
The Georgian king Mirian, converted by Nina to Christianity, wanted to transfer the body of the great enlightener to the capital, Mtskheta, but two hundred people could not move the remains from their seats. The grave of St. Nina became a particularly revered place, above it was built a temple – a majestic basilica.
Visit the city of love Signagi.
Sighnaghi is a small cozy town in eastern Georgia, located on the mountainside in the historical region of Kakheti. The name of the city comes from the Turkish word siknak (sign), meaning a fortified place, a shelter, a fortified protective structure. The city was founded in the 17th century under the reign of King Erekle II. and, as local residents say – this is the only city in Georgia that has completely preserved the fortress walls. The total length of fences is 4.5 km. 28 watchtowers adjoin them. The main fortress gates are very beautiful and have the appearance of an arch built of stone. By the nearby staircase it is possible to climb to the walls, from where you can see the city and the Alazani Valley.
Lunch at Sighnaghi. Kvareli tasting at a winery
The city of Telavi is one of the largest settlements in Kakheti, one of the regions of modern Georgia. Telavi was founded between two picturesque valleys of the Alazani and Iori rivers, near the Tsivi-Gombori mountain range. In fact, modern Telavi is the economic and cultural center of Kakheti. The city of Telavi is known throughout Georgia as a place where they make amazing Kakhetian wine. This city is also famous for the fact that here, despite the developed industry, the air remains fresh and clear. Probably, this is also because Telavi is located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level.
And u ll see amazing nature of Telavi. The city of Telavi, like many cities in the Caucasus, is surrounded by majestic mountains and slopes with small rivers, lakes and springs. Perhaps, only for the sake of these amazing species, the beauty and greatness of which is beyond words, every one of us should visit here! The city of Telavi officially became such over 200 years ago – in 1801. But, people came here much earlier. The name of the city – “Telavi” – comes from the names of elm trees, which here form whole forests. Karagach in Georgian – “the body.” Along with Tbilisi or Kutaisi, the city of Telavi can be considered one of the oldest Georgian settlements. The first documentary references about this city date back to the distant I century of our era. For a long time this settlement was one of the main economic centers of ancient Georgia, since many trade routes intersected here from East to West, and back. At the same time, Telavi became the capital of Kakheti, and this city remains to this day.The plane tree in Telavi is the oldest tree in Georgia. They say he is about 800 years old. And if so, it has seen many Georgian kings. Perhaps Irakli II played under him, and the famous Queen Tamara braided braids.
Will be in these parts – embrace the plane tree. He is alive and warm. And he knows a lot of secrets. Maybe if you’re lucky, and tell you a couple of historical secrets?
Dinner in Telavi and return to Tbilisi.
Breakfast and departure for an excursion to Ananuri
Visit the fortress of Ananuri and Zhinvali reservoir. The Ananuri Fortress is located in Georgia on the Georgian Military Highway, 70 km from Tbilisi, where the small Vedzathevi River flows into Aragvi. Ananuri served as the main stronghold for the Aragvian Eristaves, the rulers of this region. The fortress belongs to the early feudal era and served as an outpost of defense, blocking the road leading from the Darial gorge. Forty 70km north of Tbilisi on the Aragvi River is the Zhinvali reservoir, which provides the Georgian capital with water and electricity. The dam on Aragvi was built in 1985, its height exceeds one hundred meters, its width is four hundred meters. The volume of water in the reservoir is more than half a billion cubic meters.
Stop in Gudauri at the Arch of Friendship.
The Arch of Friendship of Peoples is the inspiration of the famous sculptor Tsereteli, it was built at an altitude of 2384 meters in the Kazbegi district, on the Cross of Georgian Military Road, next to the Gudauri ski resort and represents a mosaic panel that was very popular among the sculptors of that era.
Lunch in Kazbegi, visiting the monastery of the Holy Trinity (Gergeti).
The Church of the Holy Trinity (Tsminda Sameba) is a cross-domed church built in the 14th century. The only temple of this type in the Kazbegi district. It is located high on the mountain above the village of Gergeti and the town of Stepantsminda. “… the white ragged clouds were dragged across the top of the mountain, and a solitary monastery, illuminated by the rays of the sun, seemed to float in the air, carried by clouds” (A.Pushkin, 1829)Gergeti’s Sameba is an amazing temple. This is a rare case of a temple high in the mountains, at an altitude of 2170 meters from sea level. An unusual combination of architecture and snow. It can be beautifully photographed on the background of the Kazbegi glaciers.
Return to Tbilisi. Dinner .
Breakfast in Tbilisi and departure to Kutaisi.
Kutaisi is a city of extraordinary beauty in western Georgia, located on the two banks of the Rioni River. The city received its historical name from the word “Kuato”, which translates from Old Georgian as “stony” and characterizes the location of the city on a steep rocky terrain.Kutaisi is one of the most ancient cities in the world. The first memo, confirming its existence, belong to the VI century BC. The population is 150 thousand people – the city takes the 2nd place in terms of population in Georgia.
The Bagrati Temple (Bagrati) was erected during the reign of Bagrat III. Its construction began at the end of the 10th century, and was completed in 1003. The temple played an important role in the history of the medieval temple architecture of Georgia. It was here in 1089 that David IV the Builder was crowned. Almost 7 centuries Bagrati stood in its original form. But in 1961, trouble awaited him: during the attack of the Turks, the temple was very hurt – the roof of the building collapsed from a powder explosion and the dome collapsed. And in 1770, Russian troops led by Totleben captured the city of Kutaisi and destroyed the entire eastern part of the temple.
This beautifully restored outstanding monument of Georgian architecture, the center of spiritual and scientific life of the Middle Ages, the tomb of the Georgian kings, a religious place for pilgrims. It is located 11 km from the city of Kutaisi and is protected by UNESCO as an object of cultural and historical world heritage. Under the common name Gelati, a well-preserved rich historical architectural complex, which included an ancient monastery, bell tower, church and academy, founded in 1106, by the great king of Georgia David the Builder, is united. Thus, Gelati was not only the spiritual center of the country, but also the largest center of culture, history and science.
Dinner and departure to Sataplia, where there are traces of dinosaurs.
On the territory of the reserve there are very rare in the world traces of predatory and herbivorous dinosaurs, whose age is about 165 million years. With all this, the traces are considered mysterious, because they do not understand under what natural conditions they were preserved so clearly that it attracted predators and herbivores to this area, how they were formed in two layers. It means that under these tracks there is another layer of limestone and there are also traces on it. Well, all these riddles are not for us, but to see the real traces of the former inhabitants of the planet is impressive.
Georgian legends say that somewhere in this area angry gods chained the young man to the rock for giving the divine fire to people. Over the years, every passing traveler saw all the torments of a recalcitrant boy named Prometheus. In honor of him, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili dubbed this karst cave in 2010 in the cave of Prometheus. Often it is also called the Tskhaltubo cave, due to the fact that it is located in the vicinity of the city of the same name. Such natural works as this cave have always enjoyed interest, surprise and popularity.
Dinner. Night in Kutaisi.
Breakfast in Kutaisi. Departure to Zugdidi. Dadiani Manor
The graceful family palace of Megrelian princes Dadiani is an authentic decoration of the city, which testifies to its former significance. The name of Dadiani is an ancient aristocratic family, known for a relationship with Napoleon Bonaparte himself! One of the princesses of Dadian was married to Napoleon’s nephew Askil Murat. Therefore, the princes of Dadiani inherited a lot of relics associated with Napoleon. For example, several personal belongings and pieces of furniture of the emperor and one of his three posthumous masks (the other two are in France and England). All this was stored before in the family museum of the Palace of Dadiani. There is even more significant relic – the shroud of the Saint Mary. According to legend, the shroud from Byzantium to Western Georgia was brought by the ancestors of the princes Dadiani in the 15th century. The shroud can be seen only on large church festivals. The estate of the Dadiani princes is also known for its garden, for the creation of which the ruler of Megrelian Princess Dadiani (born Chavchavadze, sister of Nino Chavchavadze, widow of Alexander Griboyedov) invited prominent European gardeners in the middle of the XIX century and wrote out rare varieties of plants from Europe. Today, the garden of Dadiani is the Zugdidi Botanical Garden. Its total area is 26.4 hectares. Some trees in the garden are about 200 years old and are single specimens on the Eurasian continent.

The first mention of it occurs in Aristotle in the IV century BC, but archaeological finds indicate that the big trading city was here for a thousand years before our era. A lot of legends and myths are associated with the Gonio-Apsarossa fortress. On the territory of the fortress there is a grave, which today is considered to be the grave of the apostle Matthew – one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, whom the Savior took into his circle instead of Judas Iscariot. According to one version, after the death of Christ, the apostle Matthew came to the fortress of Gonio and remained here to preach. The grave of the apostle Matvey is located on the territory of the Roman praetorium (from the Latin word “commander’s tent”). Since the Gonio-Apsarossa fortress was built in the beginning of our era as a stronghold of the Roman troops, the praetorium in this case was the residence of the Roman general, commander of the garrison. From the Pretoria there were huge stone pedestals in the form of crosses, which supposedly stand over the grave of the apostle Matthew.

Breakfast in Batumi and departure to Svaneti.
Svaneti, the land of the Svans or on Georgian – Svanebi is one of the most remote and inaccessible regions of Georgia. For centuries, Svans only occasionally descended from the mountains – and even then only in summer, in winter, the passes covered with snow and Svaneti was completely isolated from the rest of Georgia and from the outside world in general. The result of this isolation was the preservation of a unique culture in Svaneti – the inaccessibility led to the fact that the conqueror’s foot had never stepped onto the territory of Georgia east of Mestia. Once in Svaneti, the traveler gets all the exoticism of Georgia in an even more concentrated form: picturesque mountains, beautiful legends, Svan lamb with tkemali, amazing honey!
Lunch-time. Accommodation in Svaneti (Mestia). Free time and dinner.
Breakfast and trip with car to Hantswali
A cable car (or a chair lift, like) is the main resort value in all seasons. She has a lot of good properties. For a start, it is long – the rise takes about 20 minutes. In addition, this is still the only open cable car in Georgia without cabins. Here you are blown by all the winds and smells of the mountain forest. And finally, with her great views of Ushba and the entire Caucasus Mountains.

Ushguli is the most high-mountain constantly inhabited community (not a village!) In Europe. It is located at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the extreme east of Svaneti. Located at the source of the Inguri River, at the foot of the mountain Shkhara (5068 meters). From the district center Mestia – approximately 33 kilometers to the east along the main road. This is like the farthest bearish corner of Georgia, to get into that in itself is honorable and cool. (It is considered especially cool to do this along the Lower Svaneti road).
Dinner. Return to Mestia. Free time. Dinner.
Breakfast and then Martvil Canyon
The canyon is quite narrow; it was formed among high rocks and picturesque mountains by the centenary efforts of the Abasha River. Its depth ranges from 50 to 70 meters, and is about 2.5 kilometers long.
All these figures and facts are interesting and staggering, but the most important thing in the Martvili Canyon is its picturesqueness, the cleanest air and a boat trip.
Dinner and then Canyon Okatse.
The canyon is the gorge of the river Okatze, from which it got its name. It is located in western Georgia, 50 kilometers from the city of Kutaisi.
